Studsvik announces that work has begun the S3R implementation at VC Summer. This deliver marks the 50th delivery of S3R to a full-scope simulator. This VC Summer S3R delivery is part a broad-scope simulator upgrade, with Studsvik acting as subcontractor to Corys Thunder, Inc., of St Mary’s, Georgia. Additionally, Studsvik will provide core follow modeling in the Studsvik CMS. This core follow model will facilitate reactivity manipulation credit training and Just-In-Time (JIT) training on the simulator. Project completion is scheduled for late 2010. VC Summer is operated by South Carolina Gas & Electric.
Studsvik has also begun work on an S3R installation for the NuScale simulator. NuScale Power, Inc., of Corvalis, Oregon, is commercializing a modular, scalable 45 Megawatt electric Light Water Reactor nuclear power plant. This implementation of S3R is unique, in that multiple S3R core models will execute simultaneously, owing the modular nature of the design. Studsvik is delivering this simulator in cooperation with GSE Systems, of Sykesville, Maryland.
